A new house is brewing in Longmont, built by beer and volunteers. Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley has teamed up with local craft breweries to build a new home for a Longmont mother and her daughter.
At the project’s March launch party, participating breweries—Grossen Bart, Industrial Revolution, Left Hand, Longs Peak Pub & Taphouse, Oskar Blues, Shoes & Brews, SKEYE, Wibby and 300 Suns—staged a “tap takeover” at The Roost in Longmont. Each brewery featured one of its beers on tap and offered silent auction items. The “house that beer built” should be completed in December.
In the meantime, the breweries continue to offer events and food and drink specials to raise additional funds for the project. Vicky Reyes is excited about being able to provide her 4-year-old daughter with a stable place to live. “The most exciting thing about owning a home is having that stability I never really had in my own childhood,” she says.
